Welcome to The Suffolk Pod Show!
We’re thrilled to bring you an incredible line up of episodes, starting with a deep dive into the fascinating career of Phil Harding, a legendary music producer whose work has shaped the sound of pop music across decades.
Episode Highlights
From Gus Dudgeon to Global Fame
Phil takes us back to his early days in the music business, learning the craft under legendary producer Gus Dudgeon in London. Gus, known for his work with David Bowie and Rod Stewart, played a pivotal role in shaping Phil’s approach to production and music.
Collaborating with Icons
Phil shares stories from his time working with iconic bands and artists, including The Clash, Killing Joke, and Toyah. By the mid-80s, he joined forces with the phenomenal Stock Aitken Waterman team, producing hits for Dead or Alive, Mel and Kim, Kylie Minogue, and Rick Astley—artists who defined an era of pop music.
The Rise of the Boy Band
Phil delves into the birth of the ‘boy band’ phenomenon, recounting his experiences producing some of the biggest hits for East 17 (‘Stay Another Day’ and ‘Everybody in the House of Love’) and Boyzone, including their first number one hit, a Bee Gees remix of ‘Words.’
A New Chapter: Pop Music Production
Phil discusses his recently published second book, Pop Music Production. This insightful guide is a blend of memoirs from the 90s boy band era, practical advice, and hands-on tutorials. It’s an essential read for students, lecturers, and music enthusiasts alike.
Continuing to Innovate
Phil remains a global force in music production. He shares updates on his latest projects, including collaborations with his talented production team (PJS) and a remix of a classic track by Motown legend Lamont Dozier, featuring 90s dance artist Rozalla.
